Meeting Purpose: Discuss “days out” measures for the 2014 Area 1A fishing season June 1 to September 30.
Background: The Section set the 2014 Area 1A sub-annual catch limit at 31,200 metric tons (mt) and seasonally split the quota, with 72.8% allocated from June 1 – September 30 and 27.2% allocated from October 1 – December 31. In 2012, the Area 1A sub-quota was under-harvested by 3,366 mt. The rollover provision of Addendum VI allows for up to 10% of unused quota to be carried over to the first fishing year after final landings data are available. Therefore, the Area 1A will be adjusted for a new total allowable catch of 33,967 mt. Additionally, 295 metric tons is set aside for the fixed gear fishery. Fishermen are prohibited from landing more than 2,000 pounds of Atlantic herring harvested from Area 1A until June 1, 2014.Description
