Manufacturing Alliance of Connecticut Expresses Strong Support for Competitive Electricity Markets to Connecticut Assembly

The Manufacturing Alliance of Connecticut has submitted a letter to Connecticut State Senate Deputy Majority Leader and Chairman of the Energy & Technology Committee, John Fonfara, strongly supporting competitive electricity markets and warning against any efforts to "re-regulate" the industry in the state.

"I am writing to ask that you oppose the re-regulation of Connecticut's electrical generation market. The Manufacturing Alliance of Connecticut (MAC) represents more than 300 Connecticut manufacturers. We have been able to offer manufacturers savings by aggregating our membership and contracting for competitive supply. The savings generated by competitively purchasing electricity can mean the difference between a company staying open in Connecticut, moving to another state, or closing all together....

"Deregulated competitive electric markets have resulted in large-scale savings for commercial and residential customers in most New England states. As the legislature seeks to shape Connecticut’s future energy policy, efforts should be focused on attracting additional generators and electricity suppliers by creating a competition friendly climate. Undoubtedly, as more electricity suppliers enter the state and compete for business we can expect further savings over utility standard offer rates...."
