EPSA's President Named to New CFTC Advisory Committee on Energy Markets

WASHINGTON, D.C. - John E. Shelk, president and CEO of the Electric Power Supply Association (EPSA) today was named to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) new Energy Markets Advisory Committee (EMAC) by CFTC Acting Chairman Walter L. Lukken. The Energy Markets Advisory Committee was created in 2008 to advise the CFTC on developments in energy markets that may raise new regulatory issues, the appropriate regulatory response to protect market integrity and competition, and preserve opportunities for innovation and increases in efficiency.

Shelk said, "It is an honor to serve on the Energy Markets Advisory Committee and to contribute to its goals of protecting market integrity, competition, opportunities for innovation and increased efficiency."

CFTC Acting Chairman Lukken will chair the Energy Markets Advisory Committee, which will hold its first meeting on June 10, 2008. Members include a diverse group of industry professionals, representatives of futures exchanges, market participants, and consumer groups.

According to the EMAC charter, reports and recommendations of the Committee will be used by the CFTC in evaluating regulatory and legislative issues falling within the CFTC's statutory responsibilities in the energy area. The advisory committee also will serve as a vehicle for informed discussion of emerging issues relating to energy markets and their regulation and for communication between the CFTC and U.S. and foreign markets, firms, end users, and governmental entities.
