EPSA Statement on FERC Chairman Kelliher's Announced Intention to Step Down
WASHINGTON, D.C. - John E. Shelk, president and CEO of the Electric Power Supply Association (EPSA) issued the following statement today in response to the announcement by Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Joseph T. Kelliher that he will step down from his current role as chairman on January 20, 2009.
"Chairman Kelliher took the helm at FERC during a challenging and critical time for energy issues and led the agency with thoughtfulness, inclusiveness and in a bipartisan manner. He gave all interested parties an opportunity to be heard, not only to bring concerns to the Commission, but also to bring solutions. The bipartisan decisions on major issues he helped forge are a testament to his leadership. Throughout, he was clear in his goals of protecting the consumer through strengthened oversight and enforcement, continuing to advance electricity policy based on wholesale competition, linking energy and climate change issues, and promoting the development of a robust energy infrastructure. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT05) gave the Commission significant new responsibilities and established numerous deadlines, all of which the Commission met on time under Chairman Kelliher. We commend him for his judicious leadership and wish him and his family the best in whatever his new pursuits may be."
