The introduction of invasive and exotic species has become widespread in both freshwater and marine environments. These species, which are not naturally occurring, may have negative impacts on more native species. The Commission participates in Northeast Aquatic Nuisance Species Panel and is a central distribution point for distributing relevant information to Atlantic coast fishery management agencies. The Commission has also addressed specific issues of concern upon the request of individual states, including issues involving the introduction of the Asian oyster into waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
